Blackbird Natural Burial Sanctuary provides a beautiful, natural, and protected place in nature for the burial of your beloved pets in the Chilcotin Forest.
We welcome memorial services to be held on our 48-acre off-grid property. Walk the one-mile trail around the meadow. Use the Stone Circle for a gathering or the fire pit for a ceremony. Gather your people in the tiny log chapel for a remembrance of your beloved pet.
Perhaps you'll see deer grazing nearby or a black bear and her cubs, or a squirrel using your loved one's memorial stone as a rest stop while she enjoys a rose hip or two. Drop by as the seasons change. Watch the trees and the lichen grow as your beloved pet returns to the earth.

We have set aside one acre of our 48-acre sanctuary for Blackbird Natural Burial Sanctuary. More area is available as needed.
Located north of Tŝi Nadilʔah (Standing Rock / The Dome) on the Tŝilhqot’in Plateau.
Our property is fenced with zigzag log fencing that keeps grazing cattle out but which are no barrier to wildlife who take advantage of the peaceful enclosure for safety and to have their young.
Our nearest human neighbour is about ten miles toward town. A trip to or from Williams Lake is a pleasant 45-minute drive on quiet forested roads. It is a gentle meditative journey to and from the Sanctuary.

What We Offer
* A quiet forested one-acre sanctuary for the natural burial of your beloved pet.
* Simple markers of stone native to the site can be engraved and placed on the grave. Untreated wooden grave markers are also welcome.
* Pet's bodies may be buried in a biodegradable shroud (which can be a simple blanket or cloth) or buried in a cardboard box. A simple wooden casket may be used for an additional cost as a casket needs a larger and deeper burial site.
* Ashes may be interred in a biodegradable urn or directly into the earth.
* A natural forest path is set aside if you prefer to scatter your pet's ashes.

Small Pet ~ Outdoor Cremation
In special circumstances, we can provide private outdoor cremations for small pets.
We use a dedicated wood furnace where the shrouded pet is placed, the door is closed and the cremation takes place over an 8 to 12-hour period tended to by the Caretakers. Family may witness the cremation, visit for a short time and leave, and then come back to collect their pets cremated remains in a few days time.
